Traditional Craft Hall |

|
The hall is located in Ogawa Town which is known as the "Little
Kyoto of Musashi (ancient name for Saitama)" thanks to its quaint
old-time streets. The hall boasts a complete display of prefecturally
designated crafts, such as "hina" dolls, "hagoita"
battledores, dyed fabrics, and kimono textiles as well as tradtional
"washi" paper which is the town's specialty and designated
as cultural treasure of Japan. Craft-making demonstrations and a paper-making
experience studio are hightly popular. A diorama introducing the prefecture,
a gallery and an audio-visual room are also provided, making a day
here a truly rewarding experience. If you find an item or two that
you are particularly fond of, you can purchase them at the Bussankan
specialty shop.

| The
Paleo Express |

|
|
The SL Paleo Express, named after Paleoparadoxia, an extinct marine
mammal, is pulled by a C58-363 type steam locomotive built in 1944.
Before steam engines were phased out, it served in Japan's northeast;
it began service on the Chichibu Line, between Kumagaya and Mitsumineguchi,
in 1988. From cherry blossom season in late March to the foliage season
in late November, Paleo Express passengers enjoy beautiful vistas
from the train's windows. |
